Not a knock on the Academy. To the contrary, one of my primary goals is to offer access to education where anyone with initiative, and Cable-Broadband, can go and get it (kudos to MIT for their recent move to open-source their curriculum), so in that regard, I think our views are quite similar. Level the playing field; take down the gates, and layoff the gate keepers, in a sense.
I believe that approach, not our current brick and mortar system is more efficient (builders will be pissed, as will utilities, but we sell the buildings; or lease for continuous income). Teacher's unions will cry. So did carriage drivers. Cest la vie. I'm a 5th grade teacher, btw.
I am currently negotiating a deal to develop some basic 'learning to read' software with a company called TISTA (CC'd several executives @ TISTA). Those guys are incredibly bright and have many pieces in place, or in the works, to develop more interactive learning environments where information such as that 'housed' in the Khan Academy archives could be consumed in such an all-engaging way that our current approach could go the way of the Gutenberg Press, 1400s Tech we still use in schools. Laughable.
